According to Chinese lunar calendar, 2019 was the Year of the Pig. To celebrate this date, Cowan created an internal contest for the company’s e-card. The winning design would be sent to all clients and its author would receive a prize.

The concept was inspired by the tradition of hóng bāo (红包) - the famous act of giving money in red envelopes during Chinese New Year. For Chinese people it symbolizes good wishes and luck for the new year ahead.

A gold coin (commonly related to the envelopes) engraved with a joyful pig and traditional elements was used, delivering the ideas of good fortune and wealth. And also expressing the festive mood so typical from Chinese New Year.

Unfortunately I didn’t win, but was fun to participate anyway :)
